Because I watch T.V. and sometimes enjoy it. Liking the name of the Military Press and pushing up 155lbs for 10. That I will definitely have that washboard for summer, the term Sub-woofer can be used interchangeably with Power-bottom. I do a 'mean' Jerry Lewis imitation and find that the world often looks better while walking on my hands across a room. Hello! I know lesbian chic when I see it! Jealous as hell of my gay sister who has a meaner bike than I do. I don't mind telling you that I often dream about playing guitar with Sleater-Kinney and that sometimes I pretend to be Lee Labrada. Why, no... I couldn't resist buying that copy of Bust Magazine lured in by the Sandra Bernhard cover and finding a surprisingly entertaining read. Go figure, a magazine whore like myself still addicted to overly priced editions of The Face. The White Stripes' De Stijl is on my current play list with super lo fi versions of songs, and best they make like brother and sister, better they are from Detroit. Don't make fun of me for buying The Eyes of Laura Mars on DVD, I know its not Bonnie and Clyde but hey, its still a lil Faye anyway. Step off now, I have nothing more to say today... quietly singing to myself 'Get your Freak On, Get Your Freak On.

Punk Rock icon Joey Ramone died yesterday at the age of 49 after being hospitalized in March with Lymphoma. He was the lead singer of the first punk band The Ramones, who cut rock n' roll down to its bare essentials: three chords, a catchy melody and irresistable lyrics. Speeding up the tempo they created a revolutionary sound that launched bands like the Clash, Sex Pistols, and Richard Hell. Straight outta Queens, Joey, Dee Dee, Johnny and Tommy recorded their first album of two minute three chord blasts in 1976 and instantly gained a cult following. The band would often spill out 30 songs or more in a 90 minute rapid fire set. Hits like 'Beat on the Brat', 'I Wanna be Sedated', 'Teenage Lobotomy' and my personal favorite 'Sheena is a Punk Rocker'. Their brilliantly insane work captured American boredom, teenage angst in a snarling comic book style that would rather defy itself than define itself. Despite their popularity and the hilarious appearance in Roger Corman's 1979 Rock 'n' Roll High School they never cracked the boring Eagles and Journey obsessed crap of Top 40 American Radio. Their last album was 'Adios Amigos' in support of a farewell tour in 1996. Devour the brilliant From the Velvets to the Voidoids A Pre-Punk History for a Post Punk World by Clinton Heylon. Although this book is out of print, a notice to Powells will snag you a copy at a decent price. Sincerely Riff Randell Rock 'n' Roller.
