Red land red, burning city bug-off spray kingdoms. Fire hydrant jumping sprinklers cool off bomb pops. It is here that city kids sit in second story windows, their small hands on an empty potato chip bag, leftover Domino pizza boxes. Hey kid, you little toe head, looking down at me, grinning you sing 'marco polo' over the din of traffic. Much to your delight I sing back 'marco polo' and we laugh as I pass by your window, disappearing from an upside down view.

A cigarette lighter with Our Lady of Lourdes a rose tattoo and words hardly do you justice. I know, it's the oddity and pain of a jack knifed super rig. You pour cement on hot summer days wearing Levi jeans and construction worker boots, your favorite Pitt shirt a uniform for gravel dusted motor ways holding back the sun. You once told me you wanted a Presto Salad Shooter, laughing you punched me in the arm and left a black and blue mark I treasured for days. You protested when accusations of quoting Pat Benatar's 'Love is a Battlefield' started to fly, and in a fit of hilarity we fell down laughing. We used to sit in your red Dodge Ram Pick Up and listen to the Gang of Four and Iggy Pop. Bored you left our 'boys on the rocks summer' for boot camp, I left you for art school.
