Late lunch today and I can't resist, since you mentioned it, I was once in an 80s cover band, which shall remain nameless. I went by the name Junior Knit, and crashed my way through a medley of hits including; Bronski Beat's 'Small Town Boy', Dead or Alive's 'You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)' and Berlin's 'Pleasure Victim' although Kim Wilde's 'Kids in America' always brought down the house.
Yeah, I'm a reader, voracious actually, anything and everything. I read Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood and Little Alters Everywhere. Chick books? Sure thing, in moderation, but I usually need a Y chromosome. I grew into a reader not through an introduction to fine literature, but via Mad Magazine, Comic Books, Weekly World News and Umm errr Boys Life. Jon Scieszka's article Johnny Won't Read is interesting and his latest reading initiative extremely worthwhile. Perhaps some little dudes pick up the classics later on-I know I did. Join the discussion at Readerville or Guys Read and recommend your favorite guy read.

Is it me, or are the Webbys really as dull as they seem?
Normally I'm gagging, but the following is fascinating. From Publishers Weekly; 'Gay men are mindlessly hypersexual, unethically promiscuous and ceaselessly narcissistic or so the worst stereotypes would have it. Rather than refute these charges by painting a portrait of male homosexuals as just like heterosexuals (except for one small detail), Nimmons, president of New York's Lesbian and Gay Community Services Center, radically reinterprets gay sexuality, intimate relationships and self-image. Using a wide range of scientific surveys, anthropological studies, philosophical inquiries and personal observation and anecdotes" in The Soul Beneath The Skin The Unseen Hearts and Habits of Gay Men. Thankfully Nimmons points out; We have built the least violent public culture seen among any men. Our patterns of altruism, caretaking, and volunteering are seen in no other communities of men. We caretake more consistently in our sexual relations. We build intimate relationships not just in couple, but in webs. We enjoy the world's richest, most elaborate, innovative sexual cultures. Pioneer powerful new norms of communal intimacy, support, and brotherhood, while crafting new ways of being men with women. Surprising socio-cultural read with solid data that leaves me feeling ever so Jane Goodall.

Tear along dotted line, customer copy. Summer, far too nice to be indoors attached to the machine asking, are friends electric? Brief vacation, yeah, I'm totally fucking refreshed. Twisted my ankle, hit a tree mountain biking, a painful face plant, and got electrocuted by some tech equipment, caution, do not hold items in mouth while jiggling cords, my head still tingles. Back to work today, catching up on e-mail, decided to take summer classes-but only 4 days a week. Must eeek out productivity, but leave some time for the beach, riding, gym etc. I'm growing, proper diet, proper ass kicking workout, proper supplementation and proper rest. In October I will be doing the U. S. Marine Corps marathon, so if you are in D.C. please drive me home! Heavy mp3 rotation of THE THE pump me up, my heavy duty training includes my new favorite band the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, their new CD5 can be purchased from INSound. Extensive retail therapy can be found at Target; 50 items, one crazy man, Philippe Starck democratizes design. In closing, happy accidents occur browsing the stacks at the University library. Number 5. Less Is Not Necessarily More
"Being a child of modernism I have heard this mantra all my life. Less is more. One morning upon awakening I realized it was total nonsense, it is an absurd proposition and also fairly meaningless. But it sounds great because it contains within it a paradox that is resistant to understanding. But it simply does not obtain when you think about the visual history of the world. if you look at a Persian rug, you cannot say less is more because you realize that every part of that rug, every change of colour, every shift in form is absolutely essential for its aesthetic success. You cannot prove to me that a solid blue rug is in any way superior. that also goes for the work of Gaudi, Persian miniatures, art nouveau and everything else. however, I have an alternative to the proposition that I believe is more appropriate. 'Just enough is more." Milton (I heart NY)Glaser 'This is what I have learned' from the AIGA National Design Conference. Download the entire transcript HERE in PDF.
