John Galliano Beasting for Arena Homme +
Show Studio features Nick Knight and Simon Foxton’s latest project shooting John Galliano. “The Beasting Gallery shows the arresting images from Nick Knight’s shoot for Arena Homme + featuring the A/W 2007 collection of John Galliano’s menswear line. The shots of brawny male physiques in action, as featured in the April issue of the magazine, invoke a sense of militaristic ritual and raw pagan energy…The film and photoshoot, both visual paeans to hypermasculinity, manage to blur the boundaries between physical combat and sexual frenzy, taking us through the mysterious rituals of exclusive masculine space – a domain in which war-impulse, erotic charge and horseplay become indistinguishable.” There is also film footage of the shoot. I can think of no one more inappropriate to hold up as a mentor to college students at SCAD than Galliano. I thought his homeless couture was in poor taste, but Beasting plus the Abu Grahib line is far worse.
