Official IKEA spokesperson’s response to pressure from grumpy Polish Catholics (namely a letter writing campaign) who had a hoo haa because they wanted queer couples removed from the IKEA catalog. The item in question was, according to The Ikea Fans Blog the most recent “IKEA Family Live 2009 publication, 12 archetypes of different family makeup are presented under the slogan ‘Family life is changing … Welcome to the new era.’ One of the 12 example families presented is Ian and Steve, page 54 -57 (see item 1 and item 2), who have no interest in having children, but enjoy their IKEA Kitchen and herb garden and their awesome digs.

This is great! One can never throw away good publicity! Got to love the gays and IKEA!
Wow! I’ll continue to shop there even though their stuff has cryptic assembly instructions and impossible to replace parts.

thank you, ikea.
get over it, haters!
Poland, a strange place. Always a bastion of Roman Catholicism and many times throughout it’s history forward thinking in social tolerance and innovation. However it’s doesn’t seem the case recently, I think it’s due to the imprint of Soviet control that really wasn’t that long ago. Well, if they boycot IKEA over Ian and Steve they will have to purchase inferior Polish housewares that maybe functional but hip in a 1948 eastern European sorta way.
Slowly,…slowly…the world educates itself and demonstrates genuine growth in knowledge of the real world around them. God bless Ikea
Now I want an Ikea catalog!

If they’re happy, fine. But I really think Steve could do better than Ian.
